Beaminster Singers is an amateur ensemble joined in performance by professional soloists and instrumentalists. We perform in St Mary’s Church, Beaminster. Our rehearsals are on Wednesdays at 7.30 pm, lasting about two hours. In May 2008 we will perform Charpentier Te Deum and Mozart Requiem with professional soloists and orchestra. In December we have a concert with a Christmas flavour - In dulci jubilo. More details can be found here. We look for singers who can follow music and blend with other voices and potential new members attend two or three rehearsals to sing with us. If after this initial period they decide to proceed, then they are given a voice test by the Musical Director. The voice test is not an audition, but is intended to determine whether the potential new member’s voice will fit in with the present sound and nature of the choir. The membership subscription is currently £40 per annum or £20.00 per term (January to May and September to December). It is not payable until after voice testing. Members are entitled to attend and vote at the Annual General Meeting (usually held in November), and to stand for election to the committee. Members are encouraged to assist with publicity and ticket sales for concerts, and with fund raising. Music is normally provided by the choir free of charge, and made available by the Librarian at the beginning of each term. However, it is desirable that members have their own copy of Carols for Choirs 1. Copies can be purchased through the choir.
